Cambridge, England, 20 April 2013, His Holiness the Dalai Lama remarked what a nice sunny day it was to well-wishers on the way as he walked from St John’s to the Cambridge Union this morning to speak to the Global Scholars Symposium about Non-violence and Conflict Resolution. The twelve student organizers met him briefly first before Cameron Taylor introduced him to the audience and he began his talk. |

He is staying in the Master’s Lodge of St John’s College, Cambridge and this morning walked through the College to the Divinity school to his first engagements of the day. |

Salugara, West Bengal, India, 28 March 2013 - His Holiness arrived promptly at the Salugara Kalachakra Phodrang to resume his teaching this morning. These days, the building ordinarily hosts a Himalaya Buddhist Cultural Association school offering classes 1-8 in an English medium, with an emphasis on Bhotia and Hindi. Students come from across the Himalayan region and nearby. An estimated 25,000 people have gathered from Salugara, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim and Bhutan to hear His Holiness. The weather was hot and sultry, but people were protected from the direct sun by a canopy that covered most of the ground. |

He greeted them warmly:“Young brothers and sisters, I’m glad to meet all of you. I’m 78 years old and my life has had its ups and downs, but what I want to tell you is that so many of the problems we face are man-made. We created them and we have the opportunity to reduce them too.” |

It is necessary to think that the listener is the patient, the teacher explaining is the doctor and the Dharma is the medicine to cure the disease—the delusions, the ignorance. There are other things, but these three are very important to think about. By thinking like this, you know you are really a patient needing a doctor and needing medicine to cure disease. In this way, you know the purpose of listening. Thinking like this makes you conscious of the reason for listening to the Dharma, which is the medicine to correct the disease, the delusions. Think, “I am listening to the Dharma to correct my mental disease.” |

When Zopa Rinpoche stayed in Singapore in May 1988, he stayed at the home of a happy and very devoted family. Before leaving, Rinpoche, with his great compassion dictated the following to me to compile for the Lim family, especially the mother, to practice. He suggested it also be included in this book, so that others could learn how to transform daily life activities into the path to enlightenment. |

A student advised she had strayed from the teachings and requested advice on how to resume her practice. She also asked Rinpoche to check if she was affected by spirit harm, because she was having nightmares and experiencing heavy negative energy, as well as anger and depression. |

A great Tibetan teacher of mind training once remarked that one of the mind’s most marvellous qualities is that it can be transformed. I have no doubt that those who attempt to transform their minds, overcome their disturbing emotions and achieve a sense of inner peace, will, over a period of time, notice a change in their mental attitudes and responses to people and events. Their minds will become more disciplined and positive. And I am sure they will find their own sense of happiness grow as they contribute to the greater happiness of others. |
