The Matrix certainly can't be explained in a single sentence. Mavbe not even in two or three.

        In the first of the trilogy's installments, Morpheus and friends attempted to explain it, but their vague(含糊的，暖昧的)，circular and alinost religiously enigmatic(高深莫测的)attempts at clarification(澄清，净化)mostly left us scratching our heads and asking, "What are you talking about?"

                                                                   

Which is why we've gone ahead and deciphered (解释) some  of the more Zen-like  quotes from The Matrix for ourselves.

 1 .So Says Morpheus

         "What is real? How do you define real?"

What he really means: Somewhat in the vein of "for real ,""get real" or "keep it real" .Nothing matters,  not the meaningless job you drag (拖)yourself to every day and the boss who gives you crap(废话）—— just don't tell him that.

"You have the look o# a man who accepts what he sees because he expects to wake up."

What he really means:  Keanu, the dazed and confused thing worked better for you about 10 years ago.

"Take the Blue Pill and you wake up in your bed the next morning,  like nothing happened.  Take the Red Pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”

 What he really means:  Swallow this giant Hot Tamale (玉米面团包馅卷) and you are going to be in a world of hurt.

"I didn't say it would be easy, Neo, I just said it would be the truth."

 What he really means:  The truth? You can't handle the truth!

"I can only show you the door. You're the one who has to walk through it."

What he really means:  Suck that Hot Tamale down and get in the door before I boot you in.

"You think that's air you're breathing?"

What he really means is:  Is that a bunch of wind I'm blowing?

2. So Says Trinity

"I was looking for an answer.  It's the question,  Neo.It's the question that drives us . It's the question that brought you here.You know the question, just as I did."

What she really means:  I know you know,  that you know I know .That I know .That you know .You know.

3. So Says the Oracle

"Being The One is just like being in love. No one can tell you you're in love ,you just know it, through and through, bays to bones.

What she really means is:  Through and through? Balls to bones? Sounds kind a kinky(古怪).We suspect she's Miss Cleo to costume.

"As soon as you step outside that door, you'll start feeling better. You'll remember you don't believe in any of this fate crap.  You are in control of your own life, remember? Here, take a cookie. I promise by the time you have finished eating it, you'll feel right as rain."

What she really means is: Since I spent all this time making these cookies, it would be nice if someone appreciated them.

  4. So Says Agent Smith

"Look out there, the future is our world, the future is our time."

What he really means: Forget about what those Buddhists say about living in the present; the year 3000's where it's at.

"I hate this place. This zoo. The prison, this reality, whatever you want to call it. I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do,  I feel like I've been infected by it. It's repulsive(令人厌恶的).”

 What he really means:  This sucks,  and so do you..

 5. So says the strange, balding monk-boy at Oracle's house, about "The Spoon"

 "Do not try and bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try and realize the truth : There 1is no spoon. Then you11 see that it's ，not the spoon that bends, only   yourself."

 What he really means: Michael I Jackson's spoon-bending psychic buddy is a quack(骗子).
