Bangkok, Thailand
-- To many, it is a non-issue, either because they do not believe the
Theravada bhikkhuni sangha can be revived, do not see any need for it,
do not think women want it, or do not even know it already exists. Yet,
with Theravada bhikkhunis now found in every region of Thailand, as well
as around the world, the issue cannot be ignored for long. |

Autumn
has arrived in Lumbini once again. Each early morning, I am awaken and
being greeted with a melodious orchestra performed by numerous birds. At
first there is the distinct 4-syllable calls of the laughing thrush
that sounded like “come to buddha” (notes: because of their sing-song
calls, in Viet Nam, they are named “bat co troi cot” bird and have their
own folklore tale). |

Engaged
in life at the turn of a civilization, we must confront all crucial
conflicts due to the chaos of differing ideologies mankind has been
entangled in from the very beginning of civilization. |

Saints and mystics throughout history
have adorned their realisations with different names and given them
different faces and interpretations, but what they are all fundamentally
experiencing is the essential nature of the mind |

All statues and stupas should contain the Four Dharmakaya Relic mantras and the separate Zung of the Exalted Completely Pure Stainless Light mantra. The Four Dharmakaya Relic mantras are what give power to stupas. Their benefits are inconceivable. |

The term "humanism" has been used to describe only one eastern
philosophy: Confucianism. Commentators on Indian philosophy are
sometimes emphatic in their judgment that Hinduism, Buddhism, and
Jainism represent the very antithesis of western or Confucian humanism.
Heinrich Zimmer is typical: "Humanity .. |

The problem of the First Council was first raised and discussed in
detail by Minayeff in 1887. (1) He thought that the chapter XI of the
Cullavagga which contains an account of the First Council is riddled
with contradictions, and rejected the episode of chanting of the dharma
and vinaya as legend, for it was contradicted by traditions of earlier
origin. |

Consider for a moment the following: Within the short time of our
communication here, hundred of thousands of people are being born or are
dying. These occurrences are so self-evident that we hardly take notice
of them. Nevertheless they belong to the few really important indeed
they are the most important events of all, for the individual as well as
for the whole of mankind. |

The
Praj~naapaaramitaa-hrdaya-suutra( 般若波罗蜜多心
经 )is not one of the Vij~naanavaada's texts, but
Kuei-chi (窥基 )in his PPHV( 般若波罗蜜多心经幽赞
)explains its meanings with Vij~naanavada's theories
by means of not only borrowing the theories from
LAS( 楞伽经 ), MSA (大乘庄严经论 )and YCBH 瑜伽师地
论 )etc., but also reconstructing their theories as
his new theories. Of these the "aatyantika" (阿颠底
伽 )appears in PPHV |

To know how to stay within the sphere of our ignorance is to
attain the highest. Who knows an unspoken discrimination, an untold Way?
It is this, if any is able to know it, which is called the Treasury of
Heaven. |

It
is amazing that the Buddha taught us to “GO GREEN” more than
2,600 years ago while we got thrilled and excited about this phrase only
in the last few decades. The momentum of course truly picked up in this
last decade with many country level commitment and signatories such as
the Kyoto Protocol. |

sixth National Buddhist Congress of 1993 had proposed the historial
mission: strengthen the construction of faith, morality, teaching,

An issue confronting Buddhism in
the modern world is how to promote its scriptures as a foundation for a
correct understanding of the Dharma as well as a means of promoting the
Dharma among its own followers and among interested people in general.
The volume as well as the diversity of the texts found in the three
major collections of scriptures in Pali, Chinese and Tibetan makes the
very idea of dissemination widely the Tripitaka in toto quite untenable. |

As long
as this
kammic force exists there is rebirth, for beings are merely
the visible
manifestation of this invisible kammic force. Death is
nothing but
the temporary end of this temporary phenomenon. It is not
the complete
annihilation of this so-called being. The organic life has
ceased,
but the kammic force which hitherto actuated it has not been
destroyed. |

Buddha has passed away more than 25 centuries ago, but his holy
behavior still instills in people the desire to venerate and worship
him. Furthermore, up to the present time, his teachings are still used
as guidance to enrich people with knowledge and ethical conduct. |

Buddhism
came from social life, precisely because our society has
been recognized only the survival of Buddhism, the cornerstone of the
most powerful. For the community to the people there are real emotional
and even religious significance, such a thought as would be acceptable

This
compassionate and sympathetic behavior should be offered to everybody in
need, irrespective of whether you know him or not. Everybody is treated
equally, their pain looked upon as if your own with no discrimination.
Eventually it is extended to all creatures with feeling, so that you
always treat them with pity and love. I would like to take this
opportunity to discuss with you my title「Buddhist Charity and Community
Work」. |

Buddhist
charity is not only the need of socialization of charity,
but also the important way for the weak social communities to obtain the
social supports. To develop the active function of Buddhist charity in
constructing harmonious society, Buddhism circle should cultivate and
improve the concept of Buddhist charity, building effective mechanism to
it, create social credibility of it, and build up charity brand. |
